Library

The National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) Library was established with the objective of providing comprehensive literature on the Unani System of Medicine and allied sciences to faculty members, PG scholars, and researchers, thereby supporting their academic pursuits and scientific development.

At present, the library houses a collection of more than 15,554 books, including approximately 8,000 volumes on the Unani System of Medicine and 6,500 on contemporary medical sciences such as Allopathy. In addition, around 1,000 books on Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Siddha, and Homeopathy, along with various dictionaries and encyclopaedias, are also available. All books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme.

A key strength of the library is its digital resources, which include soft copies (PDFs) of Unani classical texts and contemporary medical literature. The library also provides access to hundreds of online journals through the HELINET Consortium, complemented by global access through high-speed broadband internet.

The library building is organized into several sections, including Textbooks, Reference, Circulation, Reading Hall, Computer with Internet, and Data Entry sections. Plans are underway to expand the collection of Unani classics and other essential academic and research materials, as well as to develop additional sections such as Dissertation and Audio-Visual units.

The NIUM Library uses the Koha Integrated Library Management Software, equipped with RFID technology for efficient library operations.
